Relax this summer with a classic English picnic concert…
English Heritage and IMG are delighted to announce the 2009 summer picnic concerts taking place at Kenwood House, London and Audley End, Saffron Walden. The Hampstead stately home has been a unique fixture in the Capital’s summer concert calendar for 56 years.
This year’s Kenwood House Picnic Concerts launches on Saturday 27 June with former Kinks frontman and North London legend Ray Davies and his band performing alongside the Crouch End Festival Chorus. This is followed on 4 July by the best selling, BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter, James Morrison; Flamenco-Latin stars The Gipsy Kings on 11 July; and the much-loved Kenwood Summer Proms with multi platinum-selling ‘People’s Tenor’ Russell Watson on 18 July.
Saturday 1 August sees internationally renowned British soul legends Simply Red perform their greatest hits; followed on 8 August by Dancing in the Streets: A Golden Celebration of Motown’s Greatest Hits, featuring hit songs from artists such as Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five and The Commodores. On 15 August Jools Holland, the UK’s most popular pianist and band leader, performs with his acclaimed Rhythm and Blues Orchestra; followed by the finale of the season, Last Night of the Kenwood Proms with Britain’s favourite Tenor Alfie Boe, which takes place on 22 August and concludes with a spectacular fireworks display.
Audley End’s concert season launches on Saturday 11 July with Russell Watson, followed by Jools Holland on 18 July, and double BRIT Award-winning singer songwriter Will Young on 25 July. Back to the 80’s on Saturday 1 August is set to be the party night of the summer, starring 80s legends The Human League, Belinda Carlise, ABC, Go West and Heaven 17. On Sunday 2 August, The Last Night of the Audley End Proms is headlined by Operatic superstar Katherine Jenkins and features a thrilling Spitfire display. All concerts at Audley End conclude with a stunning fireworks finale.
